As of January 1, 2014, the transfer procedure has been changed by the introduction of the registration card. If it's a new car with a Dutch registration number or a car that was registered after January 1, 2014, you will receive a registration code which you can use to put the car into your name at the post office. Immediately after the registration transfer, you will receive part of a new code from the post office. The RDW sends the other part of the code together with the registration card. With the complete code and the registration card, you can transfer, export, or scrap the car in future. Note: For the registration transfer, a valid Dutch driving licence or identity card is necessary.
